Creating, Editing and Navigation Pennsieve Public and Private Collections

Pennsieve Discover – Collections User Guide

Overview

Collections in Pennsieve Discover allow you to group datasets together under a common theme or project. Collections can be public (visible to everyone) or private (visible only to you and your collaborators).

This guide covers how to:

  • View public collections and their versions
  • Explore datasets and tags within collections
  • Access and manage your own collections in your workspace
  • Create and edit collections
  • Add or remove datasets from a collection
  • Publish or republish updated versions

Viewing Public Collections

  • Navigate to Pennsieve Discover Collections.
  • Browse collections by title, description, tags, or version.
  • Click on a collection to view:
    • The current public version
    • Associated datasets
    • Relevant tags

Note: Public collections reflect only the latest published version. Draft changes you make in your workspace are not visible until you publish.

Accessing Your Collections

To manage your own collections, you must log in:

  1. Click the Workspaces tab in the top-right corner.
  2. In the left-hand navigation panel, select My Collections.

On the My Collections page, you can:

  • View all collections you own (both public and private).
  • Click Create New Collection (top right) to start a new collection.

Creating a New Collection

When creating a collection, provide the following information:

  • Name – The title of your collection
  • Description – A short summary of the collection
  • Tags – Single or multiple (optional)
  • License – Select from the dropdown list

Important: If you want your collection to appear on epilepsy.science or sparc.science, you must include the appropriate workspace tag.

Editing a Collection

To update an existing collection you own:

  1. Open the collection.
  2. Click the pencil icon to the upper right of the collection’s name.
  3. Update the description, tags, or license.

Adding Datasets to a Collection

  1. Inside your collection, click Browse Datasets.
  2. Select the datasets you want to add.
  3. Datasets remain linked until you remove them.

Note: Deselecting a dataset during browsing does not remove it. You must remove datasets individually (see below).

Removing Datasets from a Collection

To delete a dataset from your collection:

  1. Scroll to the dataset list below the collection description.
  2. Locate the dataset card.
  3. Click the “…” menu.
  4. Select Remove dataset from collection.
  5. Confirm when prompted.

Drafts vs. Public Versions

  • Editing collection details (description, tags, license)
  • Adding datasets
  • Removing datasets

These changes do not affect the public collection until you publish a new version.

Publishing or Republishing a Collection

To make your changes public:

  1. Hover over the button to the left of “Browse Datasets.”
    • It will display “Private Draft” by default.
    • On hover, it will show “Publish” or “Republish.”
  2. Click the button.
  3. Follow the prompts and confirm publishing.

Once complete, your collection will be updated on the Public Collections page.
