What is an embargoed dataset?
What does it mean to publish an embargoed dataset?
Typically, when a dataset is published, it becomes available in a public data repository. However, for some researchers or research consortia, it is useful to have a way to share data with collaborators without first making it available to the broader public. For example, they may wish to solicit feedback from collaborators in advance of publishing their results in a manuscript. It is also possible that they would like to share their findings without worry of intellectual property disclosure concerns (e.g. patent protection). Therefore, we provide users with the ability to publish their data to an embargoed space. Embargo is a period during which a published dataset remains unavailable to public. During embargo, the data themselves remain private and can only be accessed upon authorization by the data generator.
