Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs)

What is a DOI? How does my dataset get a DOI?

Overview

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI), is a string of numbers, letters and symbols used to permanently identify an article, document, dataset, or other digital object, and link to it on the web. A DOI will help your reader easily locate a digital document from your citation. You can think of it like a Social Security number for the article or dataset you’re citing — it will always refer to that specific item and only that one. Assigning DOI to your Pennsieve dataset

The Pennsieve platform uses DataCite to help locate, identify, manage, and cite your research data. DOIs. You can assign a DOI to your Pennsieve dataset by navigating to the Settings pane and clicking the Reserve a DataCite DOI button:

This step reserves a DOI for your dataset. However, this DOI will NOT be active, and therefore searchable, until the dataset is published to Pennsieve Discover.
